When we mention forests we think of vast and perhaps threatened groves of redwoods, oaks, everglades or rainforests but there is another realm of spectacular underwater forests hugging coastlines around the world. Abundantly rich and teaming with amazing diversity, kelp forests skirt the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of the United States. These cool water forests sway with tides and currents supporting a delicate ecology of marine mammals, plant life, fish, mollusks, crustaceans and other wonderous creatures all dancing in intricate balance. smallEXHIBITS.com, in conjunction with scientists, artists and naturalists, is developing an immersion experience in a simulated but "dry" interactive kelp forest. In a maze-like environment hung with fabulous undulating bull kelp, visitors will encounter the wide variety of life, take on the role of certain creatures, learn their natural history and how they interact with other animals and plants at all levels of the forest. The forest is populated with amazing creatures from bat stars to horn sharks to octopuses. The exhibits will connect your visitor with concepts in roles of kelp forest inhabitants. They will enter an environment created by leading set designers in partnership with marine scientists. We'd like your opinion of this concept. Tell us what you think.
